Keeping up to date with new trends and market demands is useful not only for the organization you work for, but also for your career in general.
Research skills are defined as an individual’s ability to find and evaluate useful information related to a specific topic based on what and where you need to apply that skill.
Regarding the work environment, Yvette Nkurunziza, a final year medical student at the University of Rwanda, says that research skills are not only valued in the work environment, but also in educational institutions. teaching, making it a must-have skill for anyone in their career.
She mentions that as a medical student, having these skills is imperative to advancing your career, preparing you to be able to compete for jobs.
“With research skills, one is able to gain knowledge and insight into what is happening, and most importantly, where there is need for improvement in their respective field,” she says.
On top of that, Nkurunziza points out that research skills help in learning new ways of doing things, which will later help them adapt and evolve to meet the demands of the workplace.
As a student, she also says it ultimately helps the learner identify issues that hinder performance in different areas or the ability to complete tasks.
Earnest Ssebuggwawo, an educator says with research skills one is able to find workable solutions to problems in the workplace or other environments in which they find themselves.
He notes that this is also important because it builds time management skills; this helps break down tasks into more manageable parts and tackle each piece effectively.
Furthermore, he goes on to mention that it also helps in planning, setting goals as well as organizing tasks and delegating them to others, depending on the position one holds in their institutions.
Ssebuggwawo says research is an essential part of any organization as it helps companies in many functions such as report writing and new product development among others.
“Having this skill means one is able to suggest new ideas and help their team adapt to their changing world and dynamic market, thereby saving resources,” he says.
Fabienne Uwamahoro, a teacher at Little Angels, Kicukiro, says that in a work environment, preparing well before embarking on a task or project is important.
She thinks this is essential as it will help you define the goals you want to achieve and secure everything you need to complete the research.
Additionally, she says, when researching, it’s also important to keep in mind that it’s important to use different sources.
This, she says, is a good way to make sure you’re finding the information you’re looking for and that whatever you’re looking for is accurate and rhymes with other sources.
Nkurunziza says research skills can also be demonstrated by always consulting colleagues, colleagues or your classmates.
For example, she says it can be comparing your findings with colleagues, as this will ensure that the same information is found and used in the environment you are in.
Meanwhile, having research skills is believed to be useful even in fields other than research, and these fellows are valued in almost any company or industry.
