Law students showcase their research skills at the NSU Undergraduate Law Symposium

North South University Department of Law organized a research symposium for undergraduate students on Thursday, October 13, 2022. The shortlisted papers were presented by the participants from different public and private universities across Bangladesh at the North-South University.

The honorable judges of the event were Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ekramul Haque, Professor, Department of Law, University of Dhaka; Mr. Emraan Azad, Assistant Professor, Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) and Mr. Mohammad Pizuar Hossain, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Law, East West University.

The event was opened by Professor Norman Kenneth Swazo, Director of the Office of Research and Professor of Philosophy at North-South University (NSU). The special guest of the event was Prof. Abdur Rob Khan, Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, NSU and the chief guest was Prof. Dr. M. Ismail Hossain, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, NSU; both have enriched the program with their words of wisdom on research.

Following the participants’ presentations, there was a Q&A segment where the judges commented on the participants’ research papers. Participants have benefited from the feedback which will hopefully play an important role in improving the articles and perhaps wider dissemination through eventual publication. Later, the results were announced, followed by brief remarks by Dr. Md Rizwanul Islam, Professor and Head of the Department of Law. The champion was Ms. Tarazi Mohammed Sheikh, a student at BRAC University, the first runner-up was Md. Sajidur Rahman, a student at North-South University (NSU) and the second runner-up was Md. Samsur Rahaman, also a student at NSU. . The prize pool was nominal money as well as crests and certificates. Mr. Nafiz Ahmed, Lecturer, Department of Law, North-South University delivered the vote of thanks at the end of the ceremony. Ms. Sayere Nazabi Sayem, Teaching Assistant in the Department of Law, anchored the program.

The North-South University Department of Law holds regular symposia (three times a year) to present young legal minds with the opportunity to discuss and hone their research skills. He hopes to inspire law students to understand its importance and the fact that it is an integral part of legal education.
